Accepting Applications for the 2026 Big Apple Brownfield Awards
The New York City Brownfield Partnership is pleased to announce that applications are now being accepted for the 2026 Big Apple Brownfield Awards. Award recipients will be notified in Spring 2026.
Created by the New York City Brownfield Partnership, the Big Apple Brownfield Awards recognize the most outstanding brownfield redevelopment projects across New York City and celebrate the achievements of professionals advancing the City’s brownfield industry each year.
These awards shine a spotlight on projects that demonstrate excellence through innovative remediation approaches, meaningful community engagement, and leadership in sustainability and green construction. Applicants are encouraged to review the current award categories when preparing their nominations.
The NYC Brownfield Partnership is now accepting applications for these prestigious industry honors.

Late submissions will not be accepted.
Eligibility Requirements:
- To be eligible for a 2026 Big Apple Brownfield Award, a project must:
- Be located within one of the five boroughs of New York City
- Have been impacted by environmental contamination
- Have participated in an environmental remediation regulatory program
- Have received final regulatory signoff by December 31, 2025. Examples of final regulatory signoff include a Notice of Satisfaction, Notice of Completion, Certificate of Completion, Declaration of Covenant Not to Sue, or a “No Further Action” letter.
About the Big Apple Brownfield Awards
The Big Apple Brownfield Awards promote excellence in brownfield redevelopment by honoring successful brownfield projects in New York City.
Each year the NYC Brownfield Partnership formally recognizes successful NYC brownfield clean-up and redevelopment projects at the Big Apple Brownfield Awards, an awards and networking event. Award-winning projects have had positive effects on the community and have demonstrated excellence in the following areas: Supportive and Affordable Housing, Brownfield Opportunity Area Connectivity, Collaboration, Community Outreach, Economic Development, Environmental Protection, Green Building, Innovation, Open Space, and Sustainable Remediation.
In addition to recognizing Brownfield projects, the Partnership also recognizes individuals who have made a significant impact on brownfield redevelopment in NYC through its Distinguished Service Award. Past winners of the Partnership’s Distinguished Service Awards include Executive Director and co-founder of New Partners for Community Revitalization, Jody Kass (2014), OER Deputy Director, Shaminder Chawla (2015), NYSDEC Director of Remedial Bureau B, Robert Cozzy (2015), and NYSDEC Chief of Superfund and Brownfield Cleanup, Jane H. O’Connell (2015).
